Somaliland Minister of Agriculture Opens Workshop on 2025–2030 Agricultural Development Strategy

Hargeisa, June 29, 2025 (Hornpost) – The Ministry of Agricultural Development of the Republic of Somaliland today hosted a high-level workshop in Hargeisa to discuss the draft of Somaliland’s Agricultural Development Strategy for the years 2025–2030.

The event, held at the Ministry’s headquarters, was officially opened by the Minister of Agricultural Development, Hon. Mahmoud Ige Yusuf. In his opening remarks, the Minister welcomed participants from partner organizations and agricultural stakeholders, highlighting the importance of collaborative input in shaping the strategy.

Also speaking at the forum was Ibrahim Omar, Director of the Planning Department at the Ministry, and Abdirisak Shafi, Project Coordinator for the World Bank-funded Barwaaqo Project. Both speakers emphasized the significance of the strategy and the need for all partner institutions to align their agricultural projects with the proposed framework.

The workshop, which is part of a broader consultation process, was funded through the World Bank’s Barwaaqo Project and aims to finalize a comprehensive, actionable strategy for advancing Somaliland’s agricultural sector over the next five years.

The detailed draft of the agricultural strategy and areas requiring final input;

Strategic pillars and political priorities for the 2025–2030 periods;

Implementation roadmap, potential risks, and monitoring & evaluation mechanisms.

Participants engaged in an open and productive discussion, offering valuable recommendations to further refine and validate the strategy before its official adoption.
