The President of the Republic of Somaliland received a delegation led by the Deputy Ambassador of the Finnish Government to Somaliland and Somalia, at the Presidential Palace.

Hargeisa (Hornpost) The President of the Republic of Somaliland Mr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro) today held an important meeting with Nelli Mikkola who is the Deputy Ambassador of the Government of Finland in charge of Somaliland and Somalia at the Presidential Palace.

The meeting discussed the strengthening of relations and cooperation between the two sides, especially in terms of strengthening peace, social development and strengthening the principles of good governance.

The President thanked the Deputy Ambassador for the traditional support provided by the Finnish Government to the people of Somaliland. Also, the President confirmed that Somaliland gives priority to strengthening peace and stability in the region and how to continue resolving conflicts based on dialogue and consensus.

The President told the Ambassador that during his short term in office, his Government has made significant achievements, including the nationalization of the Civilian Forces, which was established due to circumstances, modern statistics and the improvement of all the different parts of the Armed Forces. The nation of the Republic of Somaliland, and the end of the long-standing conflict in El-Afweyn District.

The President of the Republic of Somaliland has clearly defined the important needs of the community life of the Republic of Somaliland that the Government of Finland can help Somaliland; such as health care, education, handicrafts and building the capacity of public institutions.

Deputy Ambassador Nelli Mikkola, on her part, praised the President of the Republic of Somaliland for the beautiful elections and the good manner in which the Government was taken over.

Likewise, the Ambassador praised the President of the Republic of Somaliland for the responsible process that his government has approached for peace issues and the stabilization of tensions in the Eastern Regions of the country. She said that the Government of Finland is ready to help Somaliland in priority issues, such as health and education, conflict mediation and peace building.

The ambassador told the President of the Republic of Somaliland that as a country (Finland) they would like him to visit, as the President has lived in Finland for years.

In the end, this meeting ended with success and consensus.
