Somaliland has stopped the talks between Somalia; the arrival of their prime minister in Lasca’nod was a violation of the sovereignty and independence of Somaliland

Hargiesa (Horn Post) Somaliland has suspended the talks between Somalia and said that the visit of the Prime Minister of Somalia to Lasanood was a deliberate violation of the territorial independence of the Republic of Somaliland.

A press release issued by the Government of Somaliland at today’s Cabinet meeting accused the Government of Somalia of deviating from the path of peace and dialogue.

The meeting of the Somaliland Council of Ministers chaired by President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi was issued in a press release by the Minister of Cultural Information and Awareness of Republic of Somaliland Ahmed Yasin Sheikh Ali Ayanle.

The meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Somaliland held today, April 16, 2025 strongly condemns the provocative action of the Prime Minister of the Government of Somalia in the city of Las’anod on April 12, 2025, which was a violation of international law and independence. – The territorial sovereignty of the Republic of Somaliland.

The government of the Republic of Somaliland, based on its peace plan in the East Sool region, has already announced a call for peace on the day the President of the Republic of Somaliland took office on December 12, 2024, and is once again insisting that peace is its first priority, while defending the nationalism of Somaliland. It is an inviolable border.

Article 1 – The government of Somalia has completely deviated from the path of peace and dialogue:

The government of Somalia has clearly left the path of peaceful coexistence and dialogue, with the arrival of the Prime Minister of Somalia in Lasa’nod being a deliberate violation of the territorial sovereignty of the Republic of Somaliland.

The move was a political provocation and incitement to violence, which directly threatens the stability of the Horn of Africa region, by trampling on international rules and the freedom of Somaliland citizens who were illegally kidnapped.

Article 2 – That there is no discussion about the release of prisoners:

The government of Somaliland clearly states that there is no dialogue with the government of Somalia regarding the release of prisoners.

The prisoners taken by the Prime Minister of Somalia to Mogadishu are not prisoners of war (prisoners of war)

The government of Somaliland sees the move as a cover-up for the political failure of the Somali government.

Article 3 – International Cooperation on Prisoner Exchange and the Role of the ICRC:

The Government of the Republic of Somaliland has held talks with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the ambassadors of friendly countries to resolve the issue of prisoners, based on international rules and guidelines for prisoners.

The Republic of Somaliland is ready to exchange prisoners in any process in accordance with the prisoner exchange system, which is the basis of the ICRC, while the Government of Somaliland has already discussed the issues of prisoners with friendly countries such as the United States, England, Denmark, Finland, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.

Article 4 – Declaration of the Republic of Somaliland to the International Community:

The Government of the Republic of Somaliland is loudly calling on the international community to react quickly to the violations committed by the Government of Somalia in the East Sool area of Somaliland, and to support the efforts of the Republic of Somaliland to restore peace in the area east of Sool.

Somalia’s planned invasion of Somaliland threatens the stability of the Horn of Africa and gives an opportunity to extremist groups and terrorists, which is a major threat to the peace and development of the entire region.

Article 5: The dialogue between the Republic of Somaliland and Somalia:

Since the Government of Somalia has constantly committed violations against the Republic of Somaliland and the principles of previous talks between the two countries, the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Somaliland has decided to withdraw from the talks in Somalia, from today on April 16th, 2025.

The Republic of Somaliland is committed to the defense of its sovereignty and the strengthening of its independence, without negotiation.
