Somaliland President Proposes Nobel Peace Prize for Donald Trump US President

Burao, Somaliland – (Hornpost) August 21, 2025 – The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro), has proposed that former U.S. President Donald J. Trump be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, praising his efforts to end global conflicts and expressing hope that he will one day recognize Somaliland.

“Trump Has the Courage Previous Presidents Lacked”

Speaking at the 15th graduation ceremony of Burao University, where more than 600 students completed their studies, President Cirro lauded Trump’s leadership:

“I sincerely thank the President of the United States for his courage in taking steps that previous presidents never dared to, including placing Somaliland on his agenda. I am also adding my voice to nominate him for the Nobel Peace Prize. Today, he is striving to end wars around the world, including in Ukraine and Gaza, and I believe, God willing, that he may also recognize Somaliland.”

Thanks to Senator Ted Cruz

President Cirro also extended his gratitude to U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, Chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on African Affairs, for his recent open letter urging the U.S. administration to recognize Somaliland.

“I thank Senator Ted Cruz for his bold proposal, Senator Ted Cruz’s letter has sparked significant debate — it has delighted the people and friends of Somaliland while unsettling its opponents. I strongly believe his initiative will eventually be realized.”

Appreciation for Congressman Scott Perry

In his speech, President Cirro further acknowledged Congressman Scott Gordon Perry for introducing a recognition bill for Somaliland in the U.S. Congress.

“I also thank Congressman Scott Perry, who introduced the bill seeking recognition of Somaliland in the U.S. Congress.”

Call for Unity and Security

President Cirro urged the people of Somaliland to safeguard national unity and peace as the nation moves closer to international recognition.

“When we evaluate the tireless efforts of my predecessors and my administration, it is clear that the recognition of Somaliland is drawing near. I ask my people about two things: unity and peace. As for international recognition — I will deliver it.”

Development Projects in Burao

The Somaliland President and his delegation are currently touring the city of Burao, the capital of Togdheer region. During the visit, they have launched several development projects aimed at improving the lives of communities in eastern Somaliland. The initiatives have been warmly welcomed by the public.
