Burao (Hornpost) The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi Cirro, together with a high-level delegation on the second day of his official working visit to Burao, today laid the foundation stone for a historic project — a modern multi-specialty hospital to be established in the city.

The hospital, which will be the largest and most advanced medical facility in Somaliland and across the Somali region, will be financed by the Government of the United Arab Emirates and will be named Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Referral Hospital, Burao.

This state-of-the-art hospital is designed to provide a wide range of specialized medical services with world-class expertise and equipment, eliminating the need for Somaliland citizens to seek medical treatment abroad.

The inauguration ceremony was also addressed by the Minister of Health of Somaliland, regional and district authorities, as well as other distinguished guests, all of whom highlighted the significance of this landmark project for the people of Burao and the Eastern Regions.

The President noted that the project will bring immense benefits to all the people of Somaliland, particularly the residents of Burao and the Eastern Regions, who will now have access to high-quality healthcare close to home.

He further emphasized that the construction of this modern hospital fulfills the government’s earlier commitments and reflects the ongoing efforts of the Government of Unity and Development to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve essential public services nationwide.

Following the foundation-laying ceremony, President Cirro paid an inspection visit to Burao General Hospital’s Emergency Department to assess the level of services and basic needs of the facility. He also met with patients at the hospital, offering them prayers and encouragement.

Finally, the President praised the people of Burao for their dedication, unity, and significant role in contributing to the development of Somaliland.
