Hargeisa, (Hornpost), The personal visit of Djibouti’s Minister of Sports, Mr. Hassan Mohamed Kamil, to Somaliland’s capital, Hargeisa, has highlighted the growing ties between Somaliland and Djibouti, particularly in the areas of youth development and sports cooperation.
The Djiboutian delegation was warmly received at the Ministry of Youth and Sports headquarters in Hargeisa by Somaliland’s Deputy Minister of Sports, Mr. Yusuf Nuh Tadhase, and the Director General, Mr. Abdillahi Mohamed Mahmoud (Jiidhe). A key meeting was held between both sides, where they discussed strengthening joint sports initiatives and expanding opportunities for young athletes from both countries.
The visit, which was described as personal, reflects the mutual trust and openness between the two nations. It comes at a time when cooperation between the Ministries of Sports of both countries is reported to be at its strongest.
“Today (yesterday), we were honored to receive the Minister of Sports from Djibouti, Mr. Hassan Mohamed Kamil, along with the legendary former athlete, Muse Qudhaanjo,” said Deputy Minister Yusuf Nuux Tadhase.
“The visit coincides with a time of strong cooperation and excellent relations between our ministries.”
Muse Qudhaanjo, a renowned athlete across the Horn of Africa, accompanied Minister Kamil, adding further cultural and symbolic value to the visit, reflecting the shared sports heritage between the two nations.
The two ministries agreed to hold more official bilateral meetings in the near future to further strengthen sports and youth collaboration, support talent development, and possibly initiate joint programs and tournaments.
This visit is also seen as part of the broader effort by Somaliland and Djibouti to engage diplomatically and culturally through non-political avenues, with sports becoming a key area for building respect and recognition on both sides.
“Minister Kamil is on a personal visit, but it carries deep significance. During his stay, we will continue important discussions to enhance our cooperation,” added Deputy Minister Tadhase.
