Mogadishu Government Accused of Fueling Conflict in Las Anod
Mogadishu (Hornpost) The President of Somalia has openly confirmed his interference and aggression against the internationally recognized borders of the Republic of Somaliland. His government, in recent days, has been engaged in the creation of a new administration in Las Anod, where a new leadership was announced today.
The offensive launched by the Mogadishu government against Somaliland is widely interpreted as an attempt to obstruct the international recognition Somaliland is pursuing, a recognition strongly supported by influential U.S. lawmakers and publicly addressed by former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and his administration have failed to stabilize security in Mogadishu and have been locked in disputes with other Federal Member States such as Puntland and Jubaland over elections and the completion of the federal constitution.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud deliberately extended congratulations after the leadership he backed was declared in Las Anod. A press release issued from Villa Somalia in Mogadishu stated that the President congratulated the newly elected administration, and read as follows:
*“The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has congratulated President Abdulqadir Ahmed Aw-Ali and Vice President Abdirashiid Yusuf Jibril, who were elected to lead the newly formed State of Northeastern Somalia.
The President commended the maturity demonstrated by the Members of Parliament, the leadership of the assembly, and the presidential candidates who contested in Northeastern Somalia. He prayed to Allah to ease the heavy responsibility placed upon the newly elected leadership.”
