Somaliland Declares Full Control Over Its Airspace to the International Community.

Hargeisa (Hornpost) – The Minister of Civil Aviation and Airports Development of the Republic of Somaliland, Hon. Fu’ad Ahmed Nuh, has delivered a comprehensive report to the Cabinet, outlining the key achievements of the Ministry during the first six months of 2025.

In his detailed briefing, Somaliland’s Minister of Civil Aviation and Airports Development Presents Mid-Year Progress Report:

Restructuring of the Ministry’s Administrative Framework, Regulations, and Policies
Strengthening of the Air Traffic Management Department
Construction of Terminal 2 at Hargeisa Airport, which is nearing completion and will soon be inaugurated
Capacity-building and training programs for Ministry and airport staff
Renovation and equipping of the Ministry’s headquarters and airport facilities
Improvement of staff benefits and allowances for employees at both the Ministry and airports
Finalization of the redesign and reconstruction plan for the Hargeisa International Airport
In conclusion, the Minister stated that he has formally communicated Somaliland’s position on airspace management to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), as well as to the United Nations Political Office, the African Union, the European Union, and the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

He reaffirmed that the Republic of Somaliland fully exercises its sovereign rights over its airspace and independently manages all civil aviation operations within its territory.
