Hargeisa (Hornpost) The Vice President of the Republic of Somaliland, Mr. Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi, who is the Chairman of the National Drought Emergency Committee, and the members of the Committee held an important meeting with the Independent Media in their various departments operating in Somaliland.
The purpose of the meeting was to cooperate as a nation, to find a place to deal with the emergency and aid to deal with the severe drought that many people from Somaliland are suffering from.
The Chairman of the National Drought Emergency Committee and the Vice President of the Republic of Somaliland, Mr. Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi, urged the media to convey the drought in Somaliland’s friendly countries to write drought news in different languages so that the message of drought can reach the world and let’s get help.
He also called on the community to pray to God so that the rain has come and the drought can be removed.

Also, the purpose of the meeting of the Independent Press (both traditional and modern) and the National Drought Emergency Committee was for the media to play their effective role in saving our drought-stricken society.
The Vice President of the Republic of Somaliland and members of the National Committee who spoke at the meeting said that the media should stand up, as they are the eyes and voice of the people of the Republic of Somaliland that can bring noise, insults and the problem of drought far away.
The Drought Emergency Committee told the Independent Press that the drought is a collective religious and humanitarian responsibility for everyone in Somaliland, especially the press and journalists from Somaliland.
Members of the Drought Emergency Committee told the media that it is time for our nation to feel thirsty, hungry, sick and empty-handed.
They said that it is time for the gifts of speech that God has blessed the media to educate the nation and encourage self-help, mutual aid, giving and helping our poor people.
On the other hand, the meeting also made valuable statements from members of the Independent Press and the Solja Association, all of them saying that they are ready to take the role and responsibility of participating in the Drought Emergency.
During the meeting, Independent Media Members declared to the Committee that they are ready to actively participate in raising public awareness, disseminating urgent information related to the humanitarian needs of drought-stricken areas, and promoting them the assistance needed by the affected people.
They asked the National Level Committee to share important information and drought emergency plans so that they can also submit factual information, the members of the media suggested that funds should be created to prepare for the disaster and the country’s budget section should be collected regularly so that when such droughts occur, the account can be used to deposit money.
Finally, the Vice President of the Republic of Somaliland, Mr. Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi, who is the Chairman of the Drought Emergency Committee, who closed the meeting, called on the Independent Media to strengthen the broadcasting of government messages, the voices of the people affected by the drought, and to promote the relief they need are the affected people.
The Vice President urged the media community to direct the hearts and conscience of the people of the Republic of Somaliland, so that their news becomes a bridge connecting those in need and those who can provide.
The Vice President of the Republic of Somaliland, Mr. Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi, who is the Chairman of the Drought Emergency Committee, thanked the Government of Djibouti for the first donation of drought in Somaliland and thanked them for the donation they brought to Somaliland.
In Somaliland as a whole, there is a severe drought as a result of the spring rains that have caused Somaliland herdsmen to struggle with the living conditions caused by the drought which has caused the community to lose the benefits they used to get from the animals that had milk and butter as the animals lost the trees and pastures affected by the drought.
