Hargeisa (Hornpost) The Commander of the Somaliland Police Force, Brigadier General Abdirahman Abdillahi Hassan, has stated that they are actively investigating the incident that occurred on Sunday night this week in which an armed man killed two young men in Hargeisa. He added that security forces are pursuing the suspect to bring him to justice.

The victims, identified as Khadar Ibrahim Mohamed (23 years old) and Suldaan Ahmed Abdillahi (22 years old), are part of an ongoing investigation, and the Commander noted that the findings of the case will be shared with the public soon.

The Commander also revealed that 31 murders have occurred during his time in office, of which 30 suspects have already been apprehended, with only the suspect involved in this latest incident still at large. He stated: “A gruesome murder recently took place in Hargeisa city in which two young men lost their lives at the hands of an unjust assailant. The Somaliland Police Force is handling the investigation and will soon release clear results, God willing.”

Speaking further about his tenure, he said: “During the five months that I have served as Commander of the Somaliland Police Force, 31 murder cases have been recorded. Our police officers have successfully apprehended the suspects in 30 of those cases. We are hopeful that we will also succeed in catching the latest suspect who committed the recent crime. No killer or criminal should think they can escape justice.”

Commander “Abdi Dheere” emphasized that no one cares more about the security of the country than the police, who are on duty 24/7. He urged the public to cooperate with the police to ensure safety and called out those politicizing the search for the suspect:

“No one is more invested in our nation’s safety than we are. We are on duty day and night, dedicated to protecting the public. But this can only be achieved if the community cooperates with us. We urge anyone with information to come forward. Those politicizing this case should refrain and allow the police to do their work.”

On another matter, the Police Commander addressed the recent arrest of a traditional leader (Suldaan) in Berbera, stating that no individual is above the law—regardless of title or rank:

“Anyone, no matter their status, can commit a crime, be arrested, and brought before a court of law. If found guilty, they will be sentenced; if not, they will be released. This is not something that should lead to protests or disrupt public order. I urge the public to stay calm and wait for official information from the police.”
