President of Somaliland Meets with Swiss Ambassador to Somalia and Somaliland

His Excellency Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro), President of the Republic of Somaliland, today received His Excellency Ambassador Mirko Giulietti, Switzerland’s Envoy to Somalia and Somaliland, at the Presidential Palace in Hargeisa. The Ambassador, who is based in Nairobi, is on an official visit to Somaliland accompanied by a delegation from the Swiss government.

The meeting centered on issues of mutual interest, particularly the promotion of peace and stability in the Horn of Africa region.

President Cirro expressed his appreciation to the Swiss delegation for their visit and provided a comprehensive briefing on the Somaliland government’s recent efforts toward enhancing security and peaceful coexistence—especially in the eastern regions of the country. He highlighted that these achievements, including the formal integration of civilian defense units and their equipment, have been accomplished solely through local resources without external assistance.

The President reiterated Somaliland’s commitment to strengthening regional stability, good governance, democratic practices, and the conduct of free and fair elections.

In response, Ambassador Giulietti commended Somaliland for its ongoing stability, peace, and democratic governance amid a region often marked by conflict. He pledged to advocate within the Swiss government for increased support to Somaliland’s peacebuilding efforts. The Ambassador further emphasized Switzerland’s support for peaceful dialogue as a means to resolving political disagreements.
