Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Invites President of Puntland  to Addis Ababa

Garowe (Hornpost) The Federal Government of Ethiopia has officially extended an invitation to the President of Puntland State, Said Abdullahi Deni.

This invitation comes at a time when relations between Somalia and Ethiopia are strained, making the outcome of the visit particularly noteworthy and closely watched.

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud recently rejected a similar invitation from Prime Minister Abiy and instead made an unannounced trip to Cairo, the capital of Egypt.

During his trip to Ethiopia, President Said Abdullahi Deni is also expected to visit Jigjiga, where he will hold a meeting with the President of the Somali Regional State.

Without consultation of the Federal government of Somalia although some source told that Addis Ababa pressuring Somalia by contacting directly regional presidents of Somalia

The agreement brokered by Turkey between Ethiopia and Somalia in Ankara — which aimed to facilitate Ethiopian access to the sea through Somali territory — has reportedly collapsed this week.
