Changsha (Hornpost ) – On the margins of the 4th China-Africa Trade and Economic Expo and the Ministerial Meeting of Coordinators for the Implementation of FOCAC Follow-Up Actions, H.E. Abdisalam Abdi Ali (Dhaay), Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, held a high-level bilateral meeting with H.E. Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.
The meeting came at a historic moment as Somalia and China commemorate 65 years of diplomatic relations—Somalia being the first country in Eastern Africa to establish ties with the People’s Republic of China. Both sides reaffirmed their long-standing friendship, mutual respect, and commitment to advancing their recently elevated strategic partnership.
Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali expressed appreciation for China’s consistent support to Somalia’s peacebuilding, sovereignty, and national development efforts. He outlined Somalia’s core priorities for future cooperation including promoting trade and market access, Infrastructure and Human Capital Development.
Minister Wang Yi acknowledged Somalia’s historic role in supporting China’s return to the international stage and expressed deep appreciation for Somalia’s principled diplomatic support. He committed to Strengthen coordination to ensure that projects under the FOCAC framework deliver concrete, people-centered results in Somalia while supporting national Recovery and peace in Somalia.
He also committed to expanding economic ties, encouraging Chinese investment in Somalia’s priority sectors and supporting local value addition, industrialization, and institutional capacity-building.
Both reaffirmed each other’s steadfast support for their unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
