Diplomacy for Sale: The Somalia Delegation Scandal in Geneva!! By Spokesman for the President of the Republic of Somaliland

Hargeisa (Hornpost)  The recent incident in Geneva — where over half of a Somali delegation vanished after securing diplomatic visas — is not merely a diplomatic scandal; it is a vivid illustration of institutional decay, endemic corruption, and the deliberate misuse of state instruments by the failed government of Somalia.

This is not an isolated incident. For years, Somalia’s diplomatic apparatus has been exploited as a vehicle for personal enrichment, illicit migration, and political patronage. Diplomatic passports have become commodities — issued not to deserving representatives, but to the highest bidders! The international stage, in turn, is repeatedly misused as a smuggling route dressed in the cloak of sovereignty.

In sharp contrast, the Republic of Somaliland has spent more than three decades building institutions rooted in accountability, transparency, upholding rule of law, and democratic governance. Somaliland’s international delegations reflect competence, integrity and duty-bound— not misuse, opportunism or fraud.

This moment presents a sobering challenge to the international community: How long can the world afford to ignore the growing gulf between a failed state (Somalia) that exploits the donated resources and diplomatic channels for personal and family gain, and a functioning democracy that upholds them with discipline and pride (the Republic of Somaliland).”

Hussein Adan Igeh (Deyr), Spokesman for the President of the Republic of Somaliland
