Hargeisa (Hornpost) The 22nd session of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Somaliland chaired by the President of the Republic of Somaliland Mr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi (Irro), accompanied by the Vice President of the Republic of Somaliland Mr. Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi, was held today at the Somaliland Presidential Palace.
The President of the Republic of Somaliland Mr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi briefed the Council of Ministers on his trips to Kenya.
President gave general information about the most important things that came out of the trip to Nairobi, stressing the importance of the country to strengthen and improve the cooperative, economic and diplomatic relations that Somaliland has with the countries of the region.
The President of the Republic of Somaliland told the Council of Ministers that during the time he and his delegation were in Kenya, a lot of action had taken place. Kenya is a political and economic leader in the Horn of Africa.
The President of the Republic of Somaliland said that he had a meeting with the President of the Republic of Kenya, Mr. William Ruto, who leads a coalition government. Likewise, the President had a meeting with the famous Kenyan politician Mr. Raila Odinga, as his party is part of the coalition government that is currently ruling Kenya. Likewise, the President and his delegation had a meeting with the Speaker of the People’s Assembly of Kenya Mr. Moses Wetang’ula and MPs and discussed many important issues for the nation of the Republic of Somaliland.
The President of the Republic of Somaliland told the Council of Ministers that during his trip to Nairobi, we had a number of friends who were ready to work with us on the issue of Somaliland.
At the end of the day, the Council of Ministers praised the President’s efforts to strengthen Somaliland’s international cooperation and promote its strategic position in the region. The visit to Kenya is a symbol of Somaliland’s important steps towards regional cooperation, economic growth, and diplomatic recognition.
On other hand the agenda discussed at the 22nd Session of the Cabinet meeting consisted of three points:
Report on Security Situations in the Country, Report on the country’s economic situation, Report of the trip of the President of the Republic of Somaliland to Kenya.
Security Situations Report:
The Minister of the Ministry of Interior and Security gave the Assembly a general report on the security situation in the country, telling the council that the overall security of the country is secure and that there are no violence or tension in all the regions of the country, except for criminal acts daily incidents in society and traffic accidents.
Report on the country’s economic situation:
The Minister of Finance and Economic Development gave the Assembly a general report related to the economic conditions of the country and the process of collecting taxes on land, especially the tax known as GST. The minister said that all the telecommunication companies in the country from 01.07.2025 will implement that the GTS tax due will be directly related to the financial system and the country’s treasury.
The Minister also told the Assembly that the National Economic Development Committee (Members of the Council of Ministers and the Chairman of the Bank of Somaliland) will submit a study of knowledge to the Council of Ministers at the end of the 6th month regarding the most appropriate ways to develop the economy.
