The President of Somalia discussed key  issues of Syria and Palestine at the Arab League Summit held in Iraq

Baghdad, (Hornpost)  May 17, 2025; The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, gave a speech at the Arab League Summit held in Baghdad, Iraq, talking about the state of the country, the position of the Federal Government on regional and Arab affairs.

The President shared with the Arab leaders the efforts of the Somali government to rebuild government institutions, ensure security, fight against terrorism and develop the economy, which made it possible to make progress in building governance and the unity of the Somali people.

The president emphasized Somalia’s continuous position on the Palestinian issue, and stated that Somalia stands by the Palestinian people, especially in this difficult time when they are facing the invasion and atrocities in the Gaza Strip.

“The Palestinian cause is a test facing our Arabs; As Somalis, we believe that an independent Palestinian state should be established, and its capital is the city of Jerusalem”.

Also, the President welcomed the lifting of sanctions in Syria, describing it as an important step to strengthen the recovery of the brotherly country.

Finally, the President expressed Somalia’s support for the unity, independence, and governance of Sudan, calling on all parties to protect the unity of the Sudanese people and the stability of the country.
