We are very saddened by the violent protests that took place in Burao, the capital of Togdher Region, which resulted in casualties and injuries. First of all, we are praying for the people who suffered the damage to speedy recovery, and for those who died with God’s mercy.
As a party, we are very sorry and condemn the government’s response based on the use of excessive powers, which are not in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Somaliland and the laws that follow them. These measures cannot be a solution to public protests.
Finally, we call on the people of Burao to calm down and refrain from any actions that could harm the security and safety of the city. The JSL government should, as it has denied the news of the release of the prisoners, to prevent such news from reaching the community, which could harm the security and safety of the country. It is the duty of the Government to go through an inclusive exchange process regarding the release of prisoners.
