Djibouti (Hornpost.net / .com), President of Djibouti Ismail Omar Guelleh, and awarded certificates to women who have shown their work for the country at event celebrating at the headquarters of the National Union of Djiboutian Women (UNFD) for the International Women’s Day.
International Women’s Day is being commemorated this year with a slight difference in our country’s public event agenda: proof that it cannot be a complete standstill.
Furthermore, the event did not deviate from the principle of serving as support to the statement of new strategies defined for our country in its legitimate quest to work to increase the provisions of Djibouti women and therefore, to connect our society to the virtues of the country governed by permanent gender equality.
Thus, in the speech delivered to the tribune of this ceremony, the Head of State, His Excellency Ismail Omar Guelleh, declined the general directions through which our country must now continue the efforts it is constantly taking for the rights of the Djibouti women.
Therefore, regarding these new procedures, President Guelleh named a three-tier action plan.
“I call for strengthening partnerships between the Government and non-governmental organizations. Together, we can match our efforts to promote women’s health, education, safety and economic empowerment. “, in the 1st place, the President of the Republic stated, thus relaying a greater determination of the State to continue strengthening the status of Djibouti women through the principle of a better collaboration with NGOs.
“Secondly, I call for a mobilization at the level of local communities because change isn’t just decided by law: it’s built in the hearts of families, schools, neighborhoods… “, he then asserted, calling for his wishes for greater involvement of collective insertion structures in national efforts to improve the arrangements of Djiboutian women.
“Thirdly, I propose that we collectively set ambitious goals by 2030; more women in decision-making positions, eradicating gender-based violence, equitable access to health, education and productive resources,” he argued, revealing his willingness to do so divert a new round of strengthening the status of the Djiboutian woman to the extension of a grid of attributes and ambitions established jointly by the State and civil society.
As is customary, Djibouti’s celebration of International Women’s Day also serves as a platform for drawing stock of our country in terms of achievements for the benefit of Djiboutian women.
In this part of his speech, President Guelleh greatly appreciated the consistently positive process that characterizes our country in terms of women’s rights.
“In the field of education, we have expanded girls’ access to school, reduced dropout rates and promoted higher education for young women,” noted the Head of State.
“Economically, education and entrepreneurship programs have enabled many women to start their businesses,” he said, before citing important initiatives adopted on the “legislative plan… and the family code”, as significant advances recorded by our country on women’s rights chapter.
Humble and virtuous, however, under his direct impulse, our country has made a giant step in strengthening the status of women; President Guelleh stands out for so much triumphalism.
“The progress we’ve made is important milestones, but they don’t have to be finish points.” “They must be stepping stones to a better future,” the Head of State repeated, reiterating his willingness to always devote a good part of his action to the head of the country to promoting the provisions of the Djiboutian woman.
The 2025 edition of Djibouti’s celebration of International Women’s Day did not fail to sponsor its traditional batch of grants.
In the number of three, the recipients of the Head of State Award are:
-Mrs Fatouma Moussa Abdi, the Secretary General of the UNFD who received, this year, the Honorary Award.
-As for the economic prize and the social prize, they were respectively awarded to Mrs. Oubah Hassan, a painter and the Moudan Association of Dikhil.
The commemoration of the International Women’s Day was, as always, accompanied this year also by an important part of animation, where the folk troupes of the country competed, in all the national languages, with creativity and ingenuity to brighten the ceremony.
But undoubtedly, this event is undoubtedly due to its success to the participation and support in watermark that with grace, fingertips and tact the First Lady and President of the National Union of Women of Djibouti (UNFD), Mrs. Kadra Mahamoud Haid, a leading figure in the national female landscape and icon always placed at the forefront of the fight for the dignity and welfare of girls and women of our country.
