The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia held a fruitful meeting with the Chairperson of the African Union

Mogadishu (Hornpost.com) The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, today received in Mogadishu the Chairman of the African Union, Mr. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, who agreed to strengthen bilateral relations and strategic cooperation between Somalia and the African Union.

The president praised the important role of the African Union in peace efforts, the reconstruction of governance and the strengthening of internal security in Somalia, noting the courage and sacrifice shown by the African peacekeeping brothers in Somalia.

President Hassan Sheikh emphasized how the government of Somalia is committed to fighting the terrorists who are massacring the Somali people, and are against the existence and development of the country, and he praised how the countries of the region have increased their support for operations against terrorism.

“Terrorism has no place left to hide in Somalia, the land and the people have refused.  By God’s will, we will succeed in completely exterminating our country and enduring their intrigues, looting and genocide against the lives and property of the Somali people”.

Also, the President of the Republic and the President of the African Union agreed to promote economic cooperation, reform of government institutions, and strengthen regional security, to ensure lasting peace and stability.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud noted that Somalia is committed to play an active role in the process of reforming the African Union, and work to use its experience in ending civil strife and peace in the countries of the continent and the region.
