Hargeisa (Hornpost.com) The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somaliland, Mr. Abdirahman Dahir Adan, strongly responded to a statement from the Chinese government, which called on Somaliland to withdraw its relationship with the government of Taiwan.
The minister also spoke about the relationship between Somaliland and the United States, which he described as reflecting the common interests of Somaliland and the United States in cooperation.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somaliland, Mr. Abdirahman Dahir Adan, who gave an interview to BBC Somali, added that Somaliland has the right to relations with international governments and cannot call another country who or the governments it shares relations with.
The minister added as he continued his speech “Every country has the right to whom it has relations and there is no country that identifies with another country that it has relations with, and the country it does not have relations with. If we have relations with the government of Taiwan, we are one of the governments of most of the world that have relations with Taiwan, whether it is economic relations or cooperation, we do not know why our relationship with Taiwan is bothering China.”
The minister noted that Somaliland is an independent country and said. They do not ask us for advice on how to have relations with China (Somaliland) and we do not ask anyone else for advice on whom to contact.”
The minister speaking about the relationship between Somaliland and the United States said. “We are very interested and welcome the relationship between us in the United States, now it is an initial relationship, and the most important thing is that the interests of Somaliland and the interests of the United States are compatible”
The minister added that. “It is important for us that every relationship we establish is based on the interests of Somaliland and the recognition of Somaliland.”
When asked if Somaliland has a US military base in Berbera in exchange for recognition, he said that he does not want to face anything immature.
Regarding the reception of the Palestinian people that Trump wants to displace, when asked about the minister, he noted that no one has come to request or discussed the matter with him, and therefore he does not want to exaggerate something that is not on the table.
The minister, who was then asked about the relationship between Somaliland and Ethiopia, and the understanding reached by the parties, last year, said that the relationship between the two sides is at its best, and that nothing has changed in their relationship.
